The Mid-year Population Estimates for Northern
Ireland were released on 23 June and contains statistical tables of population estimates by age and sex for
Northern Ireland. The figures contribute to the
2015 Mid-year Population Estimates for the UK
published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
- The Northern Ireland 2015 mid-year population is estimated to be 1.852 million people.
- Between July 2014 and June 2015 the number of people living in Northern Ireland increased by 11,100 people (+0.6%).
- The Statistics also point to the continuing ageing of the population. Today around one person in ten is aged 70 or over, with 35,000 people aged 85 or more.
