Agriculture and Environment

The Agriculture and Environment theme brings together information and statistics about the agriculture, natural
environment, fishing, food and forestry sectors.

Business and Energy

This theme covers Business and Energy statistics, including company structure, size, location, changes to business
such as closures or mergers and attributes such as turnover, international trade and R&D. Energy statistics include
prices, fuel poverty and energy sources, such as coal or oil.

Children Education and Skills

This theme covers Children and Early Years Education, School and College Education and Higher Education and Adult Learning.

Crime and Justice

Statistics relating to crime and justice are collected from the public, police forces and other justice agencies.
The statistics include types of crime, the work of the police and the functioning of the justice system. They also
relate to the general public's experience and perceptions of crime.

Economy

Economic statistics measure different aspects of and provide insight into the NI economy.

Government

This theme provides information on Central and Local Government.

Health and Social Care

This theme covers statistics relating to information gathered on public health, health services, social care, and
health and safety at work.

Labour Market

Labour market statistics measure different aspects of work and jobs and provide an insight into the economy. The
statistics cover people's participation in the labour force, working patterns and types of work they do. The statistics
also show any earnings and benefits they receive.

People and Places

This theme covers statistics on people, their lifestyles and activities, the communities and neighbourhoods in which
they live and those communities' housing and planning needs. In addition, the theme covers statistics relating to people's
language, culture and identity, and information on local fire and rescue services.

Population

Population statistics describe the demographic characteristics of the UK population. These include statistics on the size
and geographic distribution of the population, on factors driving population change (births, deaths and migration) and on
topics such as families and older people.

Travel and Transport

The Travel and Transport theme provides information on statistics relating to all modes of travel and transport within NI.

Census 2001

The Census collects information every 10 years about the characteristics of people and households in Northern Ireland.
It is used by central and local government, health authorities and many other organisations to plan and provide future
services for us all.

Census 2011

The Census collects information every 10 years about the characteristics of people and households in Northern Ireland.
It is used by central and local government, health authorities and many other organisations to plan and provide future
services for us all. The 2011 Census took place on 27 March 2011.

Deprivation

The Northern Ireland Mutliple Deprivation Measure (NIMDM) 2010 identifies small area concentrations of multiple
deprivation across Northern Ireland. It updates and replaces the NIMDM 2005 as the official measure of deprivation in
Northern Ireland.

Investing for Health

The Investing for Health Strategy aims to improve the health of the entire population of Northern Ireland and to
reduce health inequalities by focusing on the broad determinants of health.

Neighbourhood Renewal

Under the Government's People and Place strategy, 36 urban neighbourhoods across Northern Ireland have been designated
as Neighbourhood Renewal Areas (NRAs). These communities are experiencing the highest levels of deprivation and are the
focus of urban regeneration programmes.
