  • 49.42% of the usually resident population were male and 50.58% were female; and
  • 37 years was the average (median) age of the population.

Ethnicity, Identity, Language and Religion
On Census Day 27th March 2011, in The Mournes District Electoral Area, considering the resident population:
 
  • 99.12% were from the white (including Irish Traveller) ethnic group;
  • 57.68% belong to or were brought up in the Catholic religion and 38.08% belong to or were brought up in a 'Protestant and Other Christian (including Christian related)' religion; and
  • 41.83% indicated that they had a British national identity, 32.28% had an Irish national identity and 31.20% had a Northern Irish national identity*.

On Census Day 27th March 2011, in The Mournes District Electoral Area, considering the population aged 3 years old and over:
 
  • 13.66% had some knowledge of Irish;

          A strategic approach to Public Health
Strengthened collaboration for health and wellbeing
No high level indicators have been identified at this stage for the theme ‘Developing Collaboration’. This theme addresses the need for strengthened collaboration and co-ordination across all levels of society through a ‘whole system approach’. Progress in the other indicators will provide some measure of the effectiveness of collaboration for health, however this set of indicators may need to be expanded as work progresses to monitor specific aspects of the framework or its impact. Monitoring will also be developed at local levels.
